What is HeartMath?

I was first introduced to HeartMath in the early 2000s.  Back in those days, you received a printed manual in the mail and met with a HeartMath trainer by phone for each session.

Although I appreciated what I learned, I only returned to it seriously in 2020 when I began looking for techniques and resources I could share with people struggling to effectively deal with stress and complications they were experiencing related to COVID, lock downs, and the invention of our "new normal."  I needed to find tools that I could offer people, regardless of their religious or philosophical beliefs.

"For over three decades, the HeartMath Institute has pioneered the study of heart rhythm patterns (HRV) and the heart-brain connection — research that has been replicated again and again, in labs, practice, and in everyday life. " (heartmath.com)

Eventually I became a certified mentor for the HeartMath "Building Personal Resilience" program (usually used in small groups or one-on-one settings).  As I started teaching more, I added the "Coherence Advantage" trainer certification (which allows me to teach HeartMath techniques to large groups), and the "The Resilient Heart™" certification (which focuses on trauma and the use of HeartMath techniques in a trauma-informed way).

HeartMath teaches us how to understand our body's inner-workings and to respond to stressors in ways that can increase resilience and decrease the body's production and release of stress chemicals & hormones.  This enables us to "respond" rather than merely "react" to stressors, to think more critically and creatively, to act more intentionally, and to perform more effectively in stressful situations (relationally, vocationally, and educationally).

HeartMath training and mentoring can be tailored to your (or your organization's) specific needs and can range from a short presentation, a multi-hour class, or up to 6 individual coaching sessions.
